I want so badly to give your avatar a slight drop shadow or something so it stands out amongst the aesthetic and all. Do that and you'll probably be cooler.

How to make a Custom Post Layout!

We're going to go on a step-by-step journey to learn how to make our post layouts look as unique and fun as we are. Our post layouts are coded up in a series of HTML and CSS parameters which will be entered into your header field within your Edit Profile tab (Edit Profile -> Post Layout).

Since our posts allow HTML we will start our header with a style tag.
<style> .. </style>

Within the style tags we will define our CSS classes. In CSS each class is defined as such:
.classname {}

We would then populate the class with parameters like this:
.classname {parameter: value !important;}

Some parameter values require quotation marks, some take multiple values for multiple things (border color, type, and thickness for example). Each parameter added needs to end with a semi-colon ";". The "!important" is not usually required, however it is good practice to include that when making a post layout to ensure your post style is used over any others.

There are five main classes that you will want to edit.
.table# .mainbar# .sidebar# .topbar#_1 .topbar#_2

Each instance of # should be replaced with your user ID. Go to the memberlist and find the number associated with your name - that is your user ID. Now when we start defining our classes (assuming our user ID is 15) we would want to put
.mainbar15 {parameters:value !important;}

Now that we know how to set up our classes it's important to know what each class refers to.
  • .table# - This controls the entire body of your post. If you want a full post background, for example, those parameters would go here.
  • .mainbar# - This is for the area set aside specifically for your posted content.
  • .sidebar# - This is where your avatar and various stats are on the left.
  • .topbar#_1 - The small area above your avatar where your username (and minipic) are located.
  • .topbar#_2 - The area above your .mainbar where the date and additional information about your post is located.

You can also create your own classes and attach them to
containers to create some really indepth designs. A few other pre-defined classes are as follows
  • .mainbar# .spoilerbutton {} - The spoiler button
  • .mainbar# .spoiler .spoiled {} - The actual spoiled content
  • .mainbar# .quote {} - How quoted text is formatted

Please notice how each class definition is paired with .mainbar#. If you don't include the mainbar you could potentially alter someone else's layout, or even the site itself. This practice should be used when making your own classes as well; as not to interupt any other layouts.

Here are some example headers to use to get started!
<style>
.table# {
background: linear-gradient(rgba(89,89,89,0.6), rgba(63,63,63,0.6)) !important;
border-radius: 8px !important;
border: 1px solid hsl(210, 20%, 7.5%) !important;
color: #FFFFFF;
text-shadow: -1px 0 black, 0 1px black, 1px 0 black, 0 -1px black, 2px 2px rgba(0,0,0,0.4);
}
</style>

<style>
.sidebar# .topbar#_1 {
color: #f8f8f8 !important;
font-size: 1.5em !important;
font-weight: bold !important;
}
</style>

Do keep in mind that there is much more to what is available versus the material gone over in this thread. I didn't even get into transitions or stuff of that calibur. If you are familiar with those concepts then by all means make some cool layouts. As long as they are not broken, obstructive, or NSFW you should be fine. You will find, however, that Javascript is automatically scrubbed from the headers, posts, and footers - sorry for that. HTML and CSS should give you plenty of room to express yourself with. Experiment with layouts and have fun!

Post any questions and comments in here!

Hey all, I'm Mirau! I've been staff at Grayles since 2015, and have been an avid Starbound player for a few weeks before joining up. Programming has been something I've been into for the past 20 years or so (I made my first website when I was 10 back in the 90's). I've helped work on some MMOs, some Starbound mods (most of the stuff exclusive to Grayles' Starbound Classic), various romhacks, spritework, and dabbled a little bit into gameboy sound composition. Oh yeah, I'm also the guy who runs Grayles Radio . I'm fond of roleplays too; particularly so if they are puzzle based scenarios!

Pleasure to meet you all and hope you enjoy all the features I'm adding to the website and forums!

Cheers!
~Mirau

Let's see what's been going on at the second best place to get food at the Outpost: the Beak Easy!

OH, if you've found your way to this thread by means of a QR Code, by all means post up a screenshot of what lead to you coming to the Beak Easy, and perhaps anything else going on with your character at the moment! If you need a place to upload your screenshot, I would highly suggest ImgChest. Cheers!

- Beta Launch Day! -

Welcome everyone old and new to the latest incarnation of the Grayles Gaming website. This will be the defacto place to go for all official information regarding the community, our servers and available services. Information will still be carried out to other outlets including the appropriate subreddits as well as our Discord . The bulk of such information will be linked back here for authentication and further info.

Throughout the years we've tried out various forms of having a web presence that would truly reflect what we strive to bring to our players and the community as a whole. This process requires a lot of feedback and a lot of evolution. Some features were applauded while some were scorned. We've been gathering your input and have been working to put together a community website that incorporates the features you've requested with as much customization and user expression as possible whilst conforming to a consistent layout.

We're very excited to start opening this site up to the community more. The prospect of available customization and player expression is very exciting. As one last note I would like to personally remind you all that this is a living document of sorts. As the community requests features we will do our best to incorporate them. If any features are deemed unwanted or hazardous in any way we will do our best to resolve those issues as hastily and thoroughly as possible. We mostly want everyone to enjoy themselves to their fullest. Welcome to the Beta Launch of the new Grayles Gaming website. We can't wait to see you all here!!

Cheers!
~Mirau

So moving forward - this type of thing is totes not allowed. We all know posting and several nuances do in fact work. Time to put these to good use.

Not only is the consistency of the build impeccable but the use of materials is so clean and efficient. I'm looking forward to seeing much stuff like this. And, I mean, when it's Impedus it's going to have quality. I'm looking forward to an expanded Tazumaki!

I don't even know what's going on with your avatar but that micro picture is slick. I can dig it.

Would also like to make note that there are rare instances of players being stuck in a corrupted chunk of a planet; this causes an infinite loop of logging in only to be kicked immediately. If this ever happens let us know right away and we'll be able to fix your position as well as investigate the corrupted area.

Like I said, it's very rare and most likely will not happen to you. This is just on the off chance that if it ever does happen, you'll know that we can take care of it for you.

It's also very important to understand how to check your local client logs for any particular reason. If you're unable to join or are kicked or even experience your entire client crashing (memory allocation errors do happen!) you will want to check your logs. You should get familiar with this file location:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\storage\starbound.log

Make something slick like you did for the spinning gun as your avatar and then get a matching post layout and you'll be set.

It did change now, I notice. You can also always check the FAQ for info on particular stuff like that (such as size restraints and so on).

Hey Impedus, have you by any chance a link to the reddit thread you posted this in? It would be interesting to follow up with that as well.

I know Lazy/Beast Joe modified a watering can to force certain plant mod bits to cycle through to their next value. So instant grown grass basically. (I know it doesn't answer your question, but that could have something more than what I've been shown)
